Raw industrial starch
Description

Starch is a white, odorless powder found in seeds or underground stems of many plants. Corn, wheat and potato are among the plants that contain a lot of starch. 70% of the dry matter of grain corn is related to starch. Starch is produced in powder form through mechanical dehydration of starch slurry with the help of centrifuges or vacuum filters, followed by drying in hot air. Raw starch has many properties such as forming a gel, increasing viscosity, creating texture and adjusting moisture, which is why it has a special place in various industries. In order to improve the properties and increase the use capabilities of starch, sometimes changes are made in its physical and chemical structure, which is actually introduced as modified starch. Among the types of modified starch, we can mention oxidized, cationic, acidic, phosphate and polygelatinous starch.

Due to its special features, starch can be used in various industries, among which we can mention the use of starch in the production of starch glue, paper making, paper bags and starch-based plastics. Starch glue Starch is used as a glue in sheet making industry. The cardboard sheet consists of a combination of smooth paper layer and corrugated paper, and starch glue is used to stick them together. The important features of starch glue in the sheet-making industry are: the stability of the glue viscosity during the high adhesion process, the absence of brittleness in the sheet. In this industry, starch is used as a binding agent, surface finish and adhesive (lamination). Grinding the surface improves the writing ability and printing ability of the paper. The use of starch in the production of paper bags. The units that produce bags and paper packages are starch consumers. The three types of glue used in this section are side seam, bag bottom paste (bottom part of the package), and transverse paste. The adhesive formulation for these three operations is completely different. During the production of a single-layer package, the paper is transformed into a tube, which is created through cross-stitch glue. This glue should dry slowly, be impermeable and have low solids and high adhesive strength after drying. Cross stitch adhesives usually contain white dextrin or starch modified with acid. The adhesive on the bottom of the bag should be stronger than the side seam to prevent the package from opening. The bag bottom adhesive can be made from white dextrin and starch, the water resistance of bag adhesives can be improved by adding urea-formaldehyde or polyvinyl alcohol. Starch-based plastics are biodegradable plastics, all or part of which are renewable materials, designed as bioplastics. Usually, bioplastics contain one or more biopolymers (polysaccharides, protein, peptide, etc.) as the main component, plasticizer and other additives. Among the bioplastics available in the market, the most important ones are composed of starch.
